God doesn’t always give us the answers we want or expect. But Habakkuk did not understand how God could use *wicked people (like the *Babylonians) to *punish Judah’s people. But we know from Jeremiah that they were not supposed to flee the Babylonians. Instead of changing churches when things don’t go your way or there are problems, perhaps you need be faithful to that church and try to minister to them. He tells Habakkuk, “You would not believe if you were told.”2 Why? He was despairing because of the evil around him. The proud person thinks they deserve better. We see in verse 11 that they will be held guilty for their wickedness, but God is going to use them anyway. This (prophet) prophesied concerning the Messiah, that He should come, and abrogate the laws of the Jews. In light of this the prophet exclaimed, "We shall not die." But he doesn’t mention Babylon in these descriptions. He is searching for understanding. We will not die You, O LORD, have appointed them to judge; And You, O Rock, have established them to correct. Habakkuk isn’t a well-known (or often read) book of the Bible, but it contains one of the most important lines in church history: “The righteous will live by his faith” (Hab 2:4). The Jews stoned him in Jerusalem. Because they are really wicked. And we live accordingly. Answer: The Bible does not disclose how the prophet Isaiah died, but Hebrews 11 may offer a clue. Habakkuk accepted that the Lord had chosen the Chaldeans to judge His people and affirmed that Judah’s holy remnant would not die (v. 12). Those who trust in God can and do question God. But you have to realize that Habakkuk’s account is a time frame of end-time events. This is an impossible statement. They said God did not do good or evil. On the day of his birth a great wonder took place in Israel; for the bull4 which they worshipped in Gilgal lowed, and his voice was heard in Jerusalem. People have feelings and questions.
